From Swedish to English

My name is Clare Barnes and I founded my company, Åre Translation, in 2001. I translate from Swedish to English, proofread English texts and provide courses for learners of English.

My main areas of expertise are sports, tourism, and the outdoors, but I also have experience of translating and proofreading academic texts within IT and Computer Engineering.

I am fluent in Swedish but I will only translate into English - my belief is that it is not possible to fully grasp all the nuances of a language unless it is your mother tongue.

Teaching English to non-native speakers (usually Swedes) has given me a valuable understanding of the similarities and differences between the two languages and of common linguistic and cultural misunderstandings, as well as the difficulties of understanding a wrongly or badly translated text.
